I have never questioned my loyalty to Marco and what I would and wouldn’t do for him. I want nothing more than for him to be happy. But watching him walk toward Roxy, I can’t help but be envious. I see the way his eyes light up when she’s near and I hate it.

I want her attention. I want to hear her snap at me one second then moaning my name the next. I want her next to me, under me, and over me.

Pushing off the fence, I rub my face, trying to shake off my possessive feelings toward her. I see the way she tries to avoid us, and I don’t know how much more I can take. Worst of I don’t know how my best friend will take it when he finds out that I’ve had her and that I want her again.

I’m thirty years old and I’ve never thought about being in a relationship much, but Roxy, she makes me want to try whether she realizes it or not. When she’s cold, I want her to wear my hoodie. I want to make her coffee every morning and watch as she shakes off her dreams from the night before.

The thing about Roxy though, is she’s as skittish as a bunny and I’m going to have to coax her into this.

“Hey Roman!” someone yells.

I turn and see one of the regular guys leaning against the hood of his car drinking an energy drink.

“What’s up, Dick?” I nod.

“The name’s Rich,” he says, shaking his head. “You racing tonight?”

“When don’t I?” I ask, raising a brow.

“True.” He nods. “I need you to win me some money then.”

“I’ll try,” I deadpan before turning and walking away.

“Did that guy really just tell you he needs you to win?” Blaze asks as he walks up next to me with Hannah under his arm.

“He did.”

“Idiot.” Blaze laughs.

“Be nice,” Hannah scolds, slapping his chest.

“I’ll see you at the line,” Blaze tells me before veering off with Hannah to do what they need to do.

Over the last few years, we’ve all figured out what we need to do to make these races go off without a hitch and I love it.

As I approach my car, I can’t help but feel adrenaline teasing me, knowing it’s almost time. There’s nothing better than being inside a high-performance car and pushing her to her limits. I run my hand along the fender, admiring her. As I open the door, I look over the roof and spot Roxy in the crowd and can’t help but wonder, what would she look like behind the wheel of my baby?

One of these days, I’m going to find out.
